A resort that combines guaranteed sun, deep sea diving, beaches and pools round every corner with two of the most recognisable brands in clubland is always going to be hard to beat. On that basis, Hurghada on Egypt's Red Sea coast is right up there in the top league of must-do locations.
The focal point of the resort's nightlife is the Ministry Of Sound open-air spot, as part of Papas Beach Club at the end of the main marina. This is a franchise of the famous London niterie, but the palm trees, warm sands and turqouise bay are as far removed from a concrete warehouse in seedy South London as it's possible to get.
It's here that the Smoove R&B and hip hop brand lives on. This was the London club's flagship Friday nighter for over five years until it went monthly, then sadly disappeared altogether. It's now the highlight of MOS Hurghada's weekly schedule, with resident DJs Spin and Elia entertaining the tourists and locals alike, and joined by big international guests every month.
Just a short walk away stands another titanic name in the club world The Hed Kandi Beach Bar stands as another franchise operation, owned by the same group as Ministry, (who also run a handful of other local bars and eateries.) Here, sun-soaked house and garage grooves are on the agenda seven nights a week, again with frequent guests, and with a pool party running every Friday from 2pm. Not that the venue needs any extra help in filling its pool, complete with its own beach bar, and rocking day and night to a house soundtrack.
