Ask any R&B fan who went raving in London in the late 90s to recall their favourite club night, and it's a fair bet Fresh N Funky would be in there. The legendary sessions at the Hanover Grand drew fashionable ravers from all around, and frequently showcased visiting US acts live, becoming a favourite hangout spot for industry heads too - all the more impressive considering it was all on a Wednesday night! It's dual appeal came from having DJs rinsing the freshest upfront sounds upstairs, while the basement handled old-school soul, funk and boogie revivals.
Sadly, Fresh N Funky ceased staging its regular parties in the early 00s. But here's the good news. On Saturday 2nd January the party is back in town, as the official FnF reunion takes over Den & Centro, (formerly The End) in London, WC1.
Like back in the day, the main arena is hosted by FnF favourites Brian Norman, Manny Norte, Ras Kwame, Lloyd Life and Da Firin Squad, with the remaining members of The Boogie Bunch playing a tribute set to the much-missed DJ Swing.
The Funky Room, meanwhile, has Femi, K Gee, JP, Lonyo, Chilli Source and Lloyd Boogie Boy dropping the revivals. There's also a third Boogie Box room with Sarah Fitness, Confunktion, Crookid and Clem Riley.
Tickets are £10 in advance or more on the door, with the session running from 9.30pm to 6am. Further info at http://www.freshnfunky.co.uk/www.freshnfunky.co.uk/Upcoming_Events.html
