The competition has come and gone over the years, but Soul City has held its own as the original Ibiza venue specialising in urban music, and its reputation has now hit such a buzz that it seems to get still livelier every year.

The Bar, in the bustling West End of San Antonio, plays all styles of urban music, from R&B, hip-hop and bashment, to UK Funky, garage, and everything in between. DJs Mister I and Horse are the hosts, hyping things up on the mic as much as on the decks. When things really go off, expect some dancing on the bar as shots get downed and punters get loose. It's completely free to get in, too, and the party rocks til 6am every night of the week right the way through to October.

For an altogether more relaxing experience, meanwhile, if you're on the island on a Sunday, you could do worse than to pay a visit to the Global Reggae Bar on Pinet beach, where host Mitch hosts a beach barbecue every Sunday afternoon, to a backdrop of chilled reggae sounds. An ideal antidote to a heavy Saturday night's clubbing!
