Pharrell launches lawsuit against Iceberg clothing brand

By Mark Devlin | 27 August 2010

Pharrell Williams has gone to court in a dispute concerning his right to market his own Ice Cream clothing line. The rapper/ producer is in dispute with the Gilmar Group, which owns the Ice and Iceberg brands.

According to the New York Post, Pharrell is suing the Gilmare Group because the company has blocked a trademark application for the rapper's Ice Cream clothing line. Gilmare believes that Pharrell's brands name is too similar to their own and could confuse customers.

In Pharrell's lawsuit, lawyers for the rapper countered, claiming that the word "cream" - which means money - "creates a vastly different sound, appearance, meaning and overall commercial impression."

Pharrell Williams launched his Ice Cream collection in 2004, along with his other brand, Billionaire Boys Club. The brands help him earn over $13 million dollars from 2009-2010, according to data recently released by Forbes.
