Kendrick Lamar scores his second top 10 album with ‘Untitled Unmastered’

By Joanna Chaundy | 08 March 2016

Kendrick Lamar's new album 'Untitled Unmastered' has reached no. 6 in the UK albums chart.

The unannounced project, which was released last Thursday (March 3), will be the Compton rappers's second top 10 album. Almost a year earlier, Lamar topped the charts with his second full-length, 'To Pimp a Butterfly'.

Lamar's surprise album features eight tracks – apparently unmastered – which were recorded between 2014-2016.

Several of the untitled songs have been previously performed on television by the rapper including one at last month's Grammys awards show, another on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in January and one on Comedy Central's Colbert Report in 2014.

Following the album's release, Lamar clarified on Twitter that the tracks are: "Demos from To Pimp A Butterfly. In Raw Form. Unfinished. Untitled. Unmastered."

Lamar previously mentioned that he had several unreleased tracks which never made onto 'To Pimp a Butterfly' in an interview with 2 Dope Boyz.

He said: "You see all these performances on these late night shows—I got a chamber of material from the album that I was in love where sample clearances or something as simple as a deadline kept it off the album. But I think probably close to ten songs that I'm in love with that I'll still play and still perform that didn't make the cut."

TDE label head Anthony Tiffith has confirmed on Twitter that 'Untitled Unmastered' will also get a physical release, in response to a question from a fan.
