Boogie on the borders: The SSW7 Weekender

By Mark Devlin | 16 January 2017

The SSW Weekender reaches its seventh event this June, with one of the largest soulful and black dance music event of its kind anywhere in the UK. Early line-up announcements include Joey Negro, Bobby & Steve, Jimpster, Brighter Days, Mood II Swing, Gavin Page, Lucinda Slim, Ivan Smagghe, Soul Sam, Andy Ward, and live performances from Marc Avon Evans and A Guy Called Gerald, with many more names to be added in the coming weeks.

SSW started out as the Scottish Soulful Weekender, and still retains its original vibe, ethos and key personnel, only it now takes place just over the border into England, at the Stanwix Holiday Park in Silloth-on-Solway, near to Carlisle, following very positive feedback from party-goers to last year’s event at this venue. The 2017 Weekender takes place from Friday 9th to Sunday 11th June.

Music categories represented include Soulful House, Jazz, Funk, Boogie, Disco and Modern & Northern Soul. There are five main areas - The Shrine, The Pressure Point, The Goldmine, The Love Lounge, and a Pool Party area. Its tagline ‘For Purists, not Tourists’ gives as an indication of the musical approach; this one’s for clued-up punters who know and love their music and appreciate hearing the real deal served up by equally knowing and enthusiastic DJs and live acts.

The event promises a state-of-the-art sound system, with 30K of Incubus Void systems in its main area, and it’s all-night partying, with the bars open until 7am.

There are many accommodation options available, from apartments, glamping pods and caravans, to the opportunity to pitch up your own tent and van. For all tickets and booking options, go to
