There are rappers, and then there are pioneers of the game. Described as one of the 'forefathers of G-Funk', Snoop has earned his 'legend' status and ensured West Coast rap remains firmly on the hip hop map. After nearly two decades, and a career that encompasses acting and presenting, Doctor Dre's former protégé certainly doesn't need to remind anyone of his "Mother fucking name".
It is no wonder that the 02 Shepherd Bush Empire was whipped into a frenzy when it was announced at 8.35 that Snoop was about to take the stage, yet there was no sign of the star. This caused the crowd to grow restless chanting, "We want Snoop!" – Apparently to no avail.
At this point the band assembled on stage, the monitors above the stage sprung into action, so by all indication the show was definitely due to go ahead. Finally, at 8.48pm Snoop emerged in a blue and grey jump suit, white sneakers and slicked back bunches, dropping 'Doggystyle' classics, 'Murder was the Case', 'Tha Shiznit' and the Dre track which propelled him to fame, 'Nuthin' but a 'G' Thang'.
The atmosphere was absolutely electric from the stalls to the terraces of the upper levels, but the roof was well and truly raised when he dropped 'Gin and Juice' - making the wait worth every minute. During this most recent visit to the UK, much has been made of Snoop's "girls only" Wireless after party, and it really is all about the females in the audience, even dedicating tracks such as 'Beautiful' and 'Sensual Seduction' to "all the beautiful ladies".
In a bizarre twist to the proceedings, there was a drum and bass interlude, which may have been a salute to how he believes we get down in 'London, England'. Thankfully it was swiftly followed by Signs, which originally featured Justin Timberlake and Charlie Wilson, and produced yet another hit for Snoop back in 2004.
Highlights of the night included, extracts of a documentary via the monitors in which he described that moment when he first fell in love with hip hop, courtesy of Eazy - E and NWA. This of course, made it the ideal juncture to take us way back to that Golden era with dedications to Tupac, Dre and even the unforgettable House of Pain anthem 'Jump Around'.
Just when you thought the night couldn't get any better, a special guest in the form of Damon Albarn emerged on stage performing the Gorillaz smash Clint Eastwood.
For those who saw Snoop's Wembley show, elements of the evening might have seemed a bit samey; even down to the outfit and ending. Despite the late start, the show finished promptly at 10pm without the usual return to the stage as he prepared for his next performance scheduled for 11pm.
According to Snoop, his shows are all about "Peace, Love and Soul", and London, England certainly Loved Snoop as much as he apparently loved us.
